• Leaf Creative Arts – Brendan Callaghan will give some information about Leaf Creative Arts activities and update on Stirchley, a dementia friendly ward

Dementia Action Week is a national event led by the Alzheimer’s Society that aims to raise awareness of dementia, but also improve the lives of people affected by it and their carers. This year it is taking place across the UK between the 17 – 23 May.

To support this, Leaf Creative Arts are running an event on the 22nd May behind Stirchley Library and Stirchley Baths from 12-3 pm. It will be free, socially distanced and will illustrate local available services. We are setting up a number of stalls for local service providers, including;

•  Councillor Mary Locke
•  Forward Carers
•  St. Mary’s Hospice
•  Home Instead
•  Dementia Friends
•  Woolly Mammoth Stitch Works

We will be running arts and crafts activities throughout the afternoon, and you can also join in with interactive demonstrations from;

•  Beat it Percussion, with Lynn Kaye
•  Tai Chi, with Perry Bennett
•  Choir Singing, with Ellie Dattani
• Silent Memories, a silent disco

For those who want to get their caffeine fix in, we will have Jo’s Coffee to Go on site, serving freshly ground coffee and other delights.

Message from Community Matters re Commonwealth Games Funding

We’re enjoying delivering grant support sessions to people interested in applying for Celebrating Communities grants. Celebrating Communities is a £2m fund set up by Birmingham City Council to help community and voluntary groups make the most of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games. 

Grant funding is available for projects under three themes: ‘Getting Active’, ‘Ready, Steady, Fun’ and ‘Celebrating Culture’. 

You can:

• Sign up for one of the grant support sessions we’re holding alongside Locality and Birmingham City Council’s Neighbourhood Development Support Unit.
