Mobile recycling van returns to Hazelwell

If you’re planning a pre-Christmas clear out, the council’s Mobile Household Recycling Centre (MHRC) will return to Stirchley this month.

On Thursday 10th November, the MHRC will be visiting Hazelwell Fordrough (B30 2RX) between 7am and 12:00 midday. Refuse Management staff from Lifford Lane tip will be on hand to help ensure your items go in the right bins.

CAN BE RECYCLED: Recycle any household rubbish that cannot be reused; standard recycling materials that usually go in your recycling; garden waste; bigger items like toys or small household items. Batteries, lightbulbs, small electronics etc can be recycled.

NOT ACCEPTED: Building materials, white goods (like fridges), hazardous materials and larger items will not be accepted.

No commercial waste can legally be accepted at any of the MHRC’s and any such material will be turned away. Vans are accepted at the MHRC’s subject to a 10 item limitation and a legal declaration that the waste presented is not commercial in nature. As with the Bulky Waste Collection service 2 black bags equals 1 item.

Building Pineapple Road station due to start

Building the new Pineapple Road station is due to start this week.

Contractors VolkerFitzpatrick will begin work on 22nd October for up to 6 weeks. This will enable them to remove some vegetation and trees, as needed, and set up a site compound. Most of the work will take place during standard working hours (Monday to Friday, 7.30am to 5.30pm), but there will be some weekend and night-time works due to safety reasons.

VolkerFitzpatrick will also be setting up the main site compound in Stirchley on the corner of Pineapple Road and Cartland Road. Work to set up the compound will include temporarily widening the King Edward VI School gates and installing temporary cabins and hoarding. Once the new station has been built, the compound will be removed.

Vegetation and tree removal will take place along the railway line, and in the grass area between Pineapple Road and Cartland Road. West Midlands Rail Exec will be working closely with Birmingham City Council to replant trees.

Out of hours work is due to take place along Cartland Road from Saturday 22nd October to Friday 18th November and out of hours work along the railway line is due to take place on
Saturday to Sundays from 22nd October to 27th November.

Works have been have carefully planned out work to reduce disruptions. Measures will be in place to monitor and reduce any noise. Task lighting will be directed away from neighbouring areas.

Traffic management will be in place on Pineapple and Cartland Road during some of these works. Expect noise from machinery and equipment, including excavators and dumpers, road pavers and rollers as well as smaller handheld tools.

For those who might need to visit the tip but haven’t made an appointment or don’t have appropriate transport, this is a chance to get rid of some extra items. Refuse Management staff from Lifford Lane tip will be on hand to help ensure your items go in the right bins.

Community Infrastructure Levy small grants open for applications

Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a charge which is levied by local authorities on new developments within a ward.  The levy available differs from ward to ward based on the type and size of development(s).

The Be Bold Local Element CIL Small Grants Fund is aimed at supporting ward-based community groups and organisations who are well-established in their local communities and have a deep understanding of local priorities.

Stirchley ward has a total of £20,000 available, where interested community groups can apply for a maximum of £2,000. Proposed activities must be linked to the priorities identified in the Stirchley Ward Plan 2018 – 2022.

Small, local, grassroots organisations with an annual turnover of less than £50,000 will be eligible to apply for the fund to carry out activities in Stirchley. The proposer should have a group bank account or be able to identify a sponsor organisation to hold the funds of behalf of the group. Applications can include items such as activities, staffing, volunteer costs and equipment which will support your group or organisation.

Birmingham City Council’s Mobile Household Recycling Centre is returning to Stirchley, in the Morrisons car park on Friday 15th July from 7am – noon.

For those who might need to visit the tip but haven’t made an appointment or don’t have appropriate transport, this is a chance to get rid of some extra items.

The van is due to be in the car park of the Stirchley Morrisons, towards the back (think Bond St rather than Umberslade). Refuse Management staff from Lifford Lane tip will be on hand to help ensure your items go in the right bins.
