September’s Stirchley Forum meeting

The Stirchley Neighbourhood Forum returns on Monday 11th September for its regular monthly meeting. As usual, the meeting will take place at Stirchley Community Church at 7.30pm.

At September’s meeting, Lee Hands representing Tricas Construction Ltd will be attending to discuss the building of the Stirchley Cooperative Development at the corner of Pershore Road and Hunts Road (next to the British Oak pub). Lee will be here to answer your questions and listen to any concerns.

There will also be a planning update and a chance for networking and to raise any community matters with fellow residents.

Food Bank Collection

Councillor Mary Locke is organising a collection for the B30 Food Bank on Saturday 12th August.

Volunteers will be collecting donations of food from Bournville Lane and Lea House, Mary Vale, Charlotte, Clonmel, Elm Tree and Ash Tree roads from 1pm. If you live on one of those streets but won’t be in / able to answer the door, it will be fine to leave things outside your door and the team will collect.

Please ensure nothing contains alcohol and that donations are not over-sized. As much as the Food Bank appreciated the donations, they will not open packets so cannot break items down into smaller sets. Please also ensure that you do not donate anything that requires specialist equipment or is fresh/needs using urgently.

There is a list of what items are urgent or in lower stock at the B30 Food Bank on this page. But for ease, this is what B30 Foodbank have said they need most:

  • Rice
  • pasta sauce
  • tinned or packet soup
  • baked means
  • tinned spaghetti
  • jam and honey
  • instant coffee (not large jars)
  • ready made custard
  • chocolate and snack bars
  • gender-neutral shower gel
  • liquid / bars of soap
  • shampoo

2023 Forum dates

The Stirchley Forum typically takes place on the second Monday of every month at the Stirchley Community Centre, from 7.30pm.

There are a few exceptions to this, including August when we take a summer break and occasionally in other months if there are a number of Bank Holidays.

The dates for the 2023 meetings are;

  • Monday 9th January
  • Monday 13th February
  • Monday 13th March
  • No meeting in April due to Bank Holiday
  • Monday 15th May – slightly different due to the Bank Holidays in the month
  • Monday 12th June
  • Monday 10th July
  • No August meeting
  • Monday 11th September
  • Monday 9th October
  • Monday 13th November – AGM
  • Monday 11th December

Cartland Road service road closure

Road closures are due to take place on Cartland Road’s service-road from the 20th July for four weeks.

Drainage construction and carriageway resurfacing on the affected roads will take place between 07:30 to 17:00. Kier, who are working on behalf of Birmingham City Council, ask that vehicles are not parked on the road within the works area during the road closure periods. The work is due to end on 11th August 2023.

Please be aware that due to deep excavation to construct a drainage system, vehicular access to the service road and driveways will be limited throughout this scheme.

Access on foot will always be maintained.

Kier understand that vehicle access may be essential for some medical and personal reasons. If you need to get a vehicle to your property during these works, please ask their personnel on site or call their public liaison officer Syed Shah on 07594 517206. Equally, vehicles obstructing works may be relocated to an adjacent, or nearby street by a recovery agent. Please contact Syed Shah if your vehicle has been removed.

Planning application for Fordhouse Lane

The council has received a planning application for the vacant land adjacent to 17 Fordhouse Lane.

The owners would like to change the use from vacant plot to car sales business accommodating 22 cars and erection of single storey office building. Above is a screenshot from google maps, although the area has been levelled with tarmac over and has a series of cars parked on it over recent months.

If you have any comments on the application, in support or opposition, please make them known to Birmingham City Council on their planning application website using the application number 2023/00492/PA. Comments need to be in before the 3rd August.
